Cherry Blossom – new collection

Cherry Blossom – new collection spring 2017

The arrival of cherry blossom in our gardens and parks heralds my favourite time of the year when, after the long dark days of winter, the early signs of spring start to appear. New growth, fresh green shoots, birdsong and a gradual warmth in the returning sun, it’s a time to rejoice and celebrate the changing of the seasons.

In Japanese culture Cherry blossom, has long been an enduring symbol for the ephemeral nature of life. The transience of the blossoms, their exquisite beauty and volatility, has often been associated with mortality, and graceful acceptance of destiny. For this reason, cherry blossoms are richly symbolic, celebrating the cycle of life.

Hanami is the traditional custom of enjoying the transient beauty of the flowering sakura – cherry trees. I can think of no better way to relax and take in the spectacular wonder of pink and white clouds of cherry blossom than to enjoy a picnic beneath their billowing branches on a beautiful spring day. To take a little time out of our busy lives and really appreciate the beauty of nature.

Drawing inspiration from the spirit of hanami I wanted to capture this ephemeral beauty of spring and wear it all year round. Handmade in sterling silver with the addition of sparkly pink rhodolite garnets, the birthstone for January, the Cherry Blossom collection contains a range of earrings, pendants, bracelets, rings and brooches.
